The animated musical series Schoolhouse Rock! was a Saturday morning staple for American homes. First airing in 1972, Schoolhouse Rock! educated kids on various subjects via animation set to musical numbers. It made learning fun for kids and instilled in them early that Knowledge is Power. The idea came to David McCall when he noticed one of his sons was having trouble remembering multiplication tables but knew the lyrics to many rock songs. The first song recorded was "Three is a Magic Number.” It tested so well that a children's record was compiled and released. Tom Yohe listened to the first song and began to doodle pictures to go with the lyrics. He told McCall that the songs would make good animation and the rest is history. With subjects ranging from math and science to grammar and American history, Schoolhouse Rock! made learning not only fun for kids, but easier.
