Continuing my knowledge on the artist’s and music I love and respect.I love jazz have been a fan of this type of music for 25 years and still enjoy it today I wanted a history lesson of jazz of my favorite music style and this book is perfect for itI bought this for a friend who recently lost his wife and they both loved Jazz. I am redoing his office space -he asked. But it’s a surprise on the design and I thought he would love this. Great bookGREAT BOOK!! I just wished it contained more about jazz from 1960's on.It was a Christmas gift for my boss, from all his employees, he is physician, but plays and loves Jazz, we thinks he'll love itbought as gift for friend Barbara Valburn as she and her husband Jerry knew each of the musicians personally; made super good gift for her, she absolutely loves this book.Great book (although a little rambling in parts). my bigger issue was size - it's a paperback version of a coffee table book. They should have reformatted the paperback for easy reading - it's physically awkward to actually read this book vs. just glance at a page or two.Easy read full of the background to American mostly black attitudes to making music against appalling racism and obstruction. EnnoblingHay muy buenos libros sobre la historia del Jazz, entre mis favoritos "A history of Jazz" de Ted Gioia, que se puede leer como una historia novelada desde la primera hasta la última página. Éste de Geoffrey Ward es una auténtica biblia de datos, a la que recurrir sobre todo como manual de consulta, ya que su volumen y densidad de informaciión lo hacen de difícil manejo como libro de lectura. Llegué a él por recomendación del director del programa de Discópolis Jazz Jose Miguel López, y si para alguien como él, es "EL" libro de referencia en todo lo referente al Jazz, cualquier otro aficionado a esta música, no terminará nunca de exprimir todo el jugo que contiene.
